KIVA is doing something pretty smart, in my humble opinion! They are giving away 4000 $25 free trial loans to folks who do not already have a KIVA account. For those of you who know me well you know that I am a lover of KIVA! This organization provides micro financing to those who need a foot up to get a business going. Most recipients are in other countries though they have opened it up to the US which is pretty cool, too. If you click on the link below it will take you to the site and “I” get credit if you decide to loan. Hopefully you can hop on the bandwagon while you can get a free loan!!!
Our team (Team Chiles/Brown) has loaned over $10,000 in the couple of years we have done it. The beauty of it is that once your loan gets repaid you have the option to reloan which is what I always do. You don’t have to reloan but it kind of makes sense. So your initial $25 turns into much much more over time. If you want to join our team do a search for it or leave me a message and I will get an invite sent to you!
So check it out—it will be well worth it!!! http://kiva.org/invitedby/beth3603

I hadn’t heard of this, Beth Ann.
Follow that link and see if there are any “free” loans available. It is a really great organization!
This is great! I’m posting about this on my blog tomorrow. I love to spread the word about fantastic organizations. I just learned about KIVA this year through Mountain Woman. I look forward to choosing someone else to help each month.
Karen–GREAT! I think KIVA is one of the best things ever!!! I am amazed at how much our “team” has been able to do over the past couple of years. Hopefully those who visit your blog who have never heard of it will jump on board, too!! Thanks for sharing!
I saw the teams and know you have one, but not sure what the idea is. As a team do you all agree to lend to the same person in order to fund the loan faster? Is there any other benefit to joining a team?
Oh no—you just still loan to whomever you want to loan to!!! No restrictions! It is just kind of the idea of being part of a group that is lending! We started it as a family thing to see how much we could impact as a family but opened it up to friends!!! We have loaned $10,000 in the time we have been tracking it which is a pretty impressive thing considering several of us belong to more than one team!!! I also belong to a team from my university so I split my loans between the two.
