I am no laundry expert. I have never claimed to have an advanced degree in Washing. I never took Fabric Care 101 but my mama taught me how to do laundry. And ordinarily I have risen to the occasion with the task. I know not to wash reds with ANYTHING! I know that darks like cold water. I know that whites need hot water and a dose of bleach at times. I have done okay in my lifetime. I think my mom taught me well. (Thanks!!! :-))
That is up until yesterday. Found a blanket whilst we were working on the basement that looked like a good one to use on the bed here. It is getting to be fallish and though I am not thrilled with that prospect I need to embrace it. Remember EMBRACE was one of my three words I chose this year as theme words??? Well, it is. Check it out here. So I thought it was in good shape–looked almost brand new which was not the case with much of the junk stuff we found in the basement. This had been stored in a big plastic tote so it was in good shape. Or so I thought.
I am now accepting donations for a blanket so that I can keep warm while my hubby is gone. Preferably for one that will not fall apart in the washer…….

I’ve had this happen to me, Beth Ann; exactly like your circumstances, too. Seems that a lot of these fibers dry rot when stored for a while and all it takes is that one wash to produce the mess you experienced.
My biggest laundry pet peeve (not that anyone asked) is when “someone” in my home leaves tissues in a pocket. Nope, I don’t check pockets, it’s not part of my job description.
Besides, it’s not like I’d ever find money, so why bother?
Really??? I just “assumed” it was fine to wash it……guess I was wrong!!! I am usually the one who leaves a kleenex in the pocket….my husband does leave me tips sometimes so that is nice!!! I go in spells where I am good at checking pockets….I figure whatever I find is mine!!!!
Your mama must have taught you quite a bit about cleaning too because I can’t imagine how you got that out of the washer
Yep!!!! She did!!! I had the help of my hubby pulling it all out. First load today after the fiasco—we’ll see how it comes out!

Wow, what a mess. It must have just been too old so fell apart. That’s never happened to us, at least not yet.

I tried to blame it on the washer because I am not of fan of the one here but I think that may not have been the whole thing.
This reminds me of when I washed some jeans during flu season and neglected to check the pockets which had………you guessed it………tissues in them! I hope you were able to clean out the washer.
