What an awesome concept!!! I happened upon a colorful article in the October issue of More magazine. Yea, it is that magazine for women over 40 which, of course, I am legitimately qualified to read. It is actually a pretty good magazine with articles that are current and relevant to the target audience. This article that caught my eye mainly because of the colorful images was about something that I had no earthly idea existed. Yarn bombing.
Seems a textile artist by the name of Magda Sayeg has the knack for this and started out small by knitting a cover for a door handle. From the reactions she received from that she started knitting hats for fire hydrants and leg warmers for parking meters and from there a unique art form was born. It is now a global movement and she has been commissioned by Absolut Vodka to wrap a bus in Mexico City! I found a few pictures but can’t figure out who to give credit to for them:
Pretty amazing, huh? She has a website here that details her work. What a creative outlet ! She lives in Austin, TX and I need to ask my son if he saw any of her work at Austin City Limits—sounds like she had some great stuff there. Amazing. Who would ever think of such a thing??? She even does iPhone covers!
There is a whole culture out there that I didn’t know about! After I spent time with my friend Mr. Google I found out that there are many artists who do this type of thing. Some do more of a wrapping method which is equally as cool. It is the newest type of graffiti and a much more pleasant one, dare I say. Take a look at the art done by Hottea below:
What about you? Have you ever heard of this or seen any of this work?? I am just amazed!!! But then it doesn’t take much to boggle my mind these days!

Ow wow!!! that’s amazing!! Knitting for a whole bus!! wow
I can’t even imagine knitting a cozy for a bus.
that is amazing… It takes me years to get my act together to make a blanket, how does she ever knit / crochet a bus cover?
I have no idea, Hilary! It is craziness to me. I have never done the knitting thing so I am in awe of anyone who can!
The Yarn Harlot, a famous knitting celebrity—I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but hear me out—–hosts a sock summit in Portland every other year. The folks at the convention center know that they will find yarn clothing on all manner of hotel fixtures. It very fun, and pretty funny, too.
What????? This made me totally laugh!!! I am going to have to look that one up, Ann. Thanks for sharing!!!
This is great! I love to knit but only in a straight line so I dunno if I could cover a bus! Hahaha! Have a great day!
I think it would definitely be a challenge!!!
I can not imagine how long it would take to cover a bus. Wow.
This is the first I’ve heard of this. Those buses look really fun!
Fun, huh???? I thought it was just neat!
Unbelieveable. And no. I’ve never seen anything like this. Thanks for showing us.
Crazy, huh????? I was amazed!!! There is so much talent and creativity in the world–it boggles my mind!
That’s really cool. My daughter learned to knit in a montessori school. I am going to show this to her and see if she wants to get inspired to make my old volkswagon look cool.
Tommy, I think that is a great idea and I am sure your daughter will immediately get to work on it!!!
