My Favorite Things Week—Miel Bee Enlightened Candles

Day 2 of My Favorite Things Week on It's Just Life features a lovely beeswax candle.   I have to make full disclosure that one of the owners of this Etsy Shop Miel: Bee Enlightened is Hannah who has been dating my youngest son Aaron.  Even if that was not the case I would have fallen in love with these candles that Hannah and Jessica are crafting in Durham, NC.   The subtle scent of the beeswax makes it a perfect candle to burn if you don't want a lot of fragrance but still want the warm glow … [Read more...]

Slightly Sweet Saturday—Grandma Bonnie’s Apple Pudding

I have great memories of my Grandma Bonnie (my mom's mom).  She was a superb cook and always had the best food when we visited the farm.  Farm fresh eggs (although I was not a fan of collecting them from the mean hens that pecked me) and fresh vegetables from the garden were staples on the table.  I remember hot sweaty days with  scratched arms and legs from going berry picking in the woods.  Whatever she prepared was a treat and I think I have gained my love of cooking from her. It seems … [Read more...]

Chance Encounters

Last week was traveling week for me and I had a very uneventful trip to and from Ohio unlike the week prior when I tried to get to Chicago.  Now that was a disaster from almost the first mile.  Thankfully my time traveling to see my mom was easy and fun and I encountered a couple of interesting things along the way. When I was in the waiting area at Minneapolis St. Paul airport I sat amongst a bunch of Target employees. They were having several lively discussions and were definitely having a … [Read more...]

Stand If You Are Able. Don’t Fret If You Can’t.

I recently spent a few days visiting my mom in Ohio and one of the things that we did was attend church on Sunday morning at her home church, Christ United Methodist in Alliance.  She has come to love this congregation over the past 14 years or so and after attending with her numerous times during that time I can certainly understand why.  They are a gracious and welcoming congregation and I always enjoy the services.  I think one of the things that I really enjoy about their services are that … [Read more...]

Traveling? Do’s and Don’ts for Both the Experienced and the Novice Airline Traveler

An updated version of a recycled post with a few more tips tacked on. The whole Knee Defender episode has gotten a lot of people hot under the collar about flying these days.  Yes, leg room is less as airlines are cramming more seats into aircrafts and overbooking their flights but it does not mean that people need to be nasty.  I have been known to recline my seat but usually only on longish flights and never when there is a meal service being offered.  Different planes vary on how upright … [Read more...]

Life is Too Short

Life is too short. Life is too short to not take the time to do something fun every single day. Life is too short to not use the good dishes or eat in the dining room. Life is too short to not wear the expensive perfume. Life is too short to not say what is on your mind. Life is too short to be wasted on silly disagreements. Life is too short to not stop and admire every beautiful thing in nature that we happen upon. Life is too short to not embrace new things. Life is … [Read more...]
