A New Use for the Loo

Awhile ago when Chris and I were on a little vacation in Southport, NC we ate at a cute little restaurant on the water.  I excused myself before the food arrived to go avail myself of the facilities.  I was trying to pre-empt my brother in law Carlton's theory of "food in--food out".  But that is a story for another day. I found my way through the restaurant to the restroom and stepped inside a stall.  It was a smallish bathroom with only 2 stalls and as I was in my private space a woman and … [Read more...]

Words of Wisdom

Last week I posed a question on my Facebook page asking people what their favorite quotes were.  Wow!  What a great response!  While I knew of many of them there were quite a few that were brand spanking new to me and I love that! So today join with me as I share what many of my friends (and their friends) shared as their favorite quotes.  Find a new favorite one today.   The first one is mine. "The true test of a person's spiritual life and character is not what he does in the … [Read more...]

Teapot Tuesday

Who doesn't love a teapot that honors one of our most revered professions?   Firefighters are a vital part of any community whether they are volunteer or paid. Where would we be without them? Today's teapot is a tribute to those who have chosen this as a profession---and a very important profession! Thank you! I drink a bucket of white tea in the morning. I read about this tea of the Emperor of China, which is supposedly the tea of eternal youth. It's called Silver Needle. It's … [Read more...]

Making Memories

Last week I told you about the upcoming Malt Shop Memories Street Dance and live broadcast at KCMR coming up on Friday night and I know you are all waiting with baited breath to hear all about it.  In a word----FABULOUS! Jeni of Jeni Eats and Donna of DonnaHup.com stopped off to pick me up to go down to the studio to join in the fun.  We saw lots of familiar faces including Bill Schickel, general manager at KCMR and Cynthia Tompkins whose show I get to be a part of on Tuesday … [Read more...]

Slightly Savory Saturday

Need a quick and easy appetizer to jazz up your next soiree?  This is just the ticket!!!   I served these at our Blogger Chip Tasting Party  and they were a hit.  I served some in little "shooter" type cups but any way you serve them I guarantee they will be enjoyed.I really needed larger skewers but could not find them locally at the last minute.  Next time I am in the Big City I am going to make it a point to stock up---just makes the presentation a little nicer.Little Caprese Salads on … [Read more...]

Surf’s Up–2

Last week I posted about our winter time visit to The Surf Ballroom and Museum in Clear Lake, Iowa.   It is a pretty amazing place but I saved the best part, in my humble opinion, for this post. We did not even know that this existed when we have been to The Surf for various concerts including BB King and Chicago.  But it is there and the very best part of the entire place.  I could have spent hours in the "green room" alone. For decades performers have been leaving their mark on the … [Read more...]

I’ll Do it Frank Sinatra Style

The viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge came my way. Miranda from Plus Sized Mama and author of Lemonade and Holy Stuff challenged me.  I get what the intention was in the beginning. Well, kind of.  Bring awareness to the horrid disease that takes the joy of living from so many people. I did a bit of research online so that I could be more educated on the disease. What has gotten lost in the challenge, however, is the education and the actual donations to a reputable charity that is in dire need of … [Read more...]

Let’s Super Size This! Your Chance to Save a Landmark!

I often wonder why I am the last one to find out about some things.  I try to keep up with the news and the goings on in the world but at times I am basically clueless about the things that are practically in my own back yard.  How did I not know about The Barrel Drive In in Clear Lake---a mere 5 miles from my house? Thanks to a recent social media blitz and with the company of good friends I am now much more educated.  And that, my friends, is a very good thing.  Especially when it comes to … [Read more...]
