High Five for Comments for a Cause!

Today is the start of a new month and no April Fool's jokes here!!! Just happy to be moving into spring, hopefully, and some nicer weather. We still have big snow piles from the plowing but hopefully those all will be gone by week end. My cause for March---Care of Creation and Brittany Ederer is done for the month  and I am happy to report that a donation of $224 is going to help fund Brittany's work at this wonderful organization.  I was so happy to "find" her and be able to be a small … [Read more...]

Candy Wrappers, Napkins and Banana Peels

Life with an adult with Down Syndrome is interesting.  I always thought I knew my brother in law, Carlton, but until I actually lived with him for 6 months I did not have a clue.  Not that I got it all figured out after 6 months of living with him but I do understand a lot more than I did before and that is a good thing. We had to have some regular maintainance done on the house and so the HVAC guy came to check things out.  Chris mentioned that the upstairs was always really warm and … [Read more...]

Giveaway with an Ulterior Motive

It's time for a giveaway here at It's Just Life but I have to be honest.  I have an ulterior motive.  I am fully disclosing this up front.  You see---the month is almost half over and my comments are not where I would like them to be.  If you have followed me for any time you know that I have a Comments for a Cause on my blog and for each legitimate comment during that month on any post (heck--it could be on a post from 2008 for all I care!) I will donate 50 cents to my cause. This month I … [Read more...]

The Ripple Effect

On Thursday this week I wrote a post about the Hedin family---you can read the original post by clicking right here.  It will take you to the post in a new window and then you can come right back if you missed it.  In a nutshell, Tom, husband and father was in a horrible snowmobiling accident.   He was taken by medical helicopter 50 miles to the Hennepin Community Hospital in Minneapolis where he remains in ICU as I write this.  The details are up on his CaringBridge page  as to the extent … [Read more...]

Reconfiguring? You Betcha!

Sometimes life comes hard and fast.  This has been one of those weeks when I have realized that fact.   A good friend from North Carolina lost her mother.  Another long time friend from our Navy days lost her father.  I am in that age range now where this is a common occurrence for deaths of those we are close to.  Since the beginning of the year we have made 3 memorial donations and that is hard to imagine. As I talked with my good friend about the chaos that goes into getting things … [Read more...]

Comments for a Cause –It’s All About the Kids

This past month I was pretty excited to support Josh's Yolka Project as my featured charity here at It's Just Life.  You can read more about it here but in a nutshell Josh is a 17 year old young man who was adopted from Russia when he was 4 1/2 years old.  He knows first hand of the things that are lacking at the orphanages there and it is his goal to raise money for different things for those orphanages including Yolka (Christmas) presents. I learned about Josh and his project from his … [Read more...]
