No Fooling! It’s All About the Kids!

April 1st is here and even though it is a day for practical jokes and tom foolery that won't be what you find on It's Just Life because it is Comments for a Cause day!!!  I know I say this every single month but it really is my favorite day of the month because I get to share with you how much we raised for Comments for a Cause AND reveal what our next cause will be.  March was a great month to feature Make a Wish-North Iowa as the featured charity. You can read the original post by clicking … [Read more...]

6 Years Later–A Giveaway

When I started this blog 6 years ago today I had no idea what joy it would bring.  I started out on Blogger with a blog called Beth Ann's Musings and in 3 years time I migrated my blog to WordPress and renamed it It's Just LIfe--Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary.  I have never looked back. Over the 6 years we have been on a bit of an adventure.   I have posted 1866 posts and have recorded 22,824 comments on my blog posts over that time (that includes my own comments/responses).  I … [Read more...]

Making Wishes Come True

It is March 1st and that means it is time to focus on Comments for a Cause here at It's Just Life.  If you are new follower (thank YOU!) this is the way it works.  Each month I select a charity or cause to support.  For each legitimate comment on ANY post during that month I promise to make a donation of 50 cents to that cause.  Legitimate = a comment that shows that you actually read the post and actually made a comment relevant to it.   Simple, right? In February I was thrilled to find … [Read more...]

Saving Homes and Holy Lemonade

Ever wonder why I take blogging so seriously?   At times it appears to have become a full time job with little pay but you know what?   It is all about connecting with people and the relationships that we build with one another. Stay with me on this one--it is kind of complicated.  I have followed Rara's blog Rarasaur for quite awhile.  Rara is an amazing lady who is very compassionate and loving and caring and all those things that I like to embrace in my own life.  She sponsored the NaNo … [Read more...]

Comments Pave the Way for Both Research and Global Arts Therapy

I never dreamed when I started doing Comments for a Cause in April 2011 that I would get so wrapped up in the causes that I discovered.   It has been such a blessing to both my husband and myself to be able to support some wonderful people and causes along the way.  Every month the new "cause" presents itself and I have no doubt that it is God-guided.  The other neat outcome is that others have joined in and if you check out the right side of my blog you will find a spot where I list other … [Read more...]

Filling Stations, Food and Fabulous Friends

How could you not click on a post with Filling Stations in the title???  I am very glad you did and stayed around to read the first paragraph of this post, at least! Earlier this week a group of new and old friends of the blogger type gathered at a local diner in Mason City to get to know each other a bit more. The location:  LD"s Filling Station located on 12th Street NE .   If you have never been to LD's you might miss it when driving by---it is back from the road and a huge favorite of the … [Read more...]

Comments Pave “The Way”

During the month of December I designated Comments for a Cause to go to UMCOR specifically directed to relief efforts for Tyhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.  I am happy to report that with your help we will be donating $234.50 to UMCOR directly for aid to continue to be given to help the folks in this disaster ravaged area.   Our family also designated this as the Christmas charity this year so it was a family effort also and I am thrilled that so much was donated to help in this extreme time of … [Read more...]

Applause, Applause, Applause

The month of November was a challenge in several ways and one of them was that I committed to write a blog post every single day. If you have followed me for any length of time you know that I normally average about 5 posts a week with 2 of those being taken up with Teapot Tuesday and Wordless Wednesday.  I normally do a blog hop on Friday that Hilary at Feeling Beachie hosts but the past month I have put that on the back burner and done more writing posts.  Add to it that our Comments for a … [Read more...]

Lessons Learned

I am on day 8 of the NaBloPoMo challenge and having a great time doing it.  Today the BlogHer prompt is : Tell us what you have learned so far about blogging every day. Since I am a list maker and list lover I decided to approach it this way.  In a list.  Feel free to add yours in the comments below! Blogging every day works well if you have massive amounts of coffee to fuel you. The support and encouragement from a community who is writing along with you is vital.  (Thank you … [Read more...]

NaBloPoMo + Amazon Smiles

Before you think I am speaking in a foreign language let me explain.   In the month of November writers and bloggers everywhere make a pledge to write every day.   For writers the goal is to write a novel during the month.  A pretty lofty goal but what a great way to get started.   The official link for this is located here---National Novel Writing Month.  It's a great thing.  I have dreams of writing a book but honestly----I don't know if that is ever going to happen.  If it does I suspect it … [Read more...]
