For the Love of Cowboys

I have been living it up large in Texas lately!  I twisted the hubby's arm to take me into Fort Worth to see the Stockyards and my one goal was to get my picture taken with a longhorn cow.  I can officially say that that mission was accomplished.  First selfie was so-so---the cow (his name was Cotton) was a tad bit uncooperative. He kept turning his head and actually later I read the signs that said to stay 20 feet away from the fence.  My bad. Then I found Padron.  Padron was less than … [Read more...]

More Fun With #NorthIowaBloggers –Don’t You Wish You Lived Here?

Our little group is growing by leaps and bounds!  I am thrilled that this group that started out with just a few of us has started to grow and expand over the past few months.  Quite honestly this group has changed my life and that is a fact. It seems that we love to get together.  It does not have to be for a special event like our Lay's Tasting Party or our Oreo Tasting Party.  It can be just getting together for a meal at The Barrel Drive In or going to visit a local business together. We … [Read more...]

Musings from Texas

Can I just go on record to say that I love Texas?  I love the bigness of it.  I love the food.  I love the people.  I love that politeness reigns everywhere.  I love the "yes, ma'am" and opening doors for people. I love that the people I have encountered here are polite and generous and happy to share with me. My flight was simple and easy---bumped up to first class where this time instead of Drunk Steve as a seat mate I had Quiet Joe who barely even acknowledged my existence until we landed … [Read more...]

Thank You, Farmers! #SpoonSalute and #FranklinCoHarvest Continues!

Disclaimer: The Franklin County Harvest Bloggers Tour was sponsored by the The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce & Franklin County Farm Bureau who provided our lodging, meals and activities. All opinions and thoughts are totally my own. Do you know how many ears of corn grow on a single stalk on average?  That is just one of the things that I learned on my recent Franklin County Harvest Bloggers Tour weekend.  I honestly learned more that weekend than I could have imagined. Not that I am … [Read more...]

Franklin County Harvest Bloggers Tour—First Rate Lodging

I hardly know where to start with sharing my past weekend in Franklin County but I decided to start with our lodging for the weekend.  The entire weekend was sponsored and paid for in full by the Franklin County Farm Bureau and Franklin County Tourism . I will be writing many posts about this event and that was an expectation of attending this weekend but I am thrilled to highlight all that we experienced over the weekend.  Trust me---it was a lot of fun. Chris was able to make it back from … [Read more...]

Extraordinary—-#FranklinCoHarvest

Extraordinary That one word describes the weekend. I am recovering from a very wonderful weekend.  Today's post will be brief as my brain is a bit fried.  If I tried to even attempt to begin a post I would not be able to do it justice so......I am going to wait, organize my thoughts and my hundreds of pictures and plan some posts that will really do the entire weekend justice. Suffice it to say Franklin County ---Iowa put out the red carpet for the bloggers for their 3rd Annual Franklin … [Read more...]

It’s Fall in North Iowa, Y’all!

I am giving in and just saying it---it's fall.  It really is. I have been trying to live in denial but as I type this today it is totally fall weather outside.  The pictures above show my fabulous mums and pumpkins (and notice that adorable pumpkin holder!) that I got at a local small family business--Anderson's.  Their selection was fabulous and I loved being able to support a nice local small town business.  When the mums start really opening they are going to be amazing. Speaking of … [Read more...]

Traveling? Do’s and Don’ts for Both the Experienced and the Novice Airline Traveler

An updated version of a recycled post with a few more tips tacked on. The whole Knee Defender episode has gotten a lot of people hot under the collar about flying these days.  Yes, leg room is less as airlines are cramming more seats into aircrafts and overbooking their flights but it does not mean that people need to be nasty.  I have been known to recline my seat but usually only on longish flights and never when there is a meal service being offered.  Different planes vary on how upright … [Read more...]

Just a Walk Through A Graveyard

Graveyards and cemeteries have always fascinated me.  There is just a lot of history and interesting facts that can be gathered from taking a leisurely walk through a place where many go to remember a loved one.  When I was in college I often went to the cemetery outside of town to study.  Weird, maybe, but no one bothered me there. When our boys were little we tried to teach them to respect places like cemeteries which many people hold as sacred spots.  Our oldest, Micah, called them "little … [Read more...]
