South of the Border

Everyone needs some tackiness in their life every now and then.  I was on a quest to find a tourist trap and find it I did!!!  On a trip to Charleston, SC I encountered the best example of tourist "trapiness" that I think I have ever experienced .  Right on the way on I 95 at the North Carolina/South Carolina line sits South of the Border. I was driving at that point so I took my husband hostage and pulled off to explore all that Pedro had to offer weary travelers on their way to the … [Read more...]

Trout Don’t Live in Ugly Places

If you read yesterday's post you read that for my birthday Chris booked a fly fishing trip for us.  We have talked about finding something that we both like to do outside together that would be a good thing to develop.  Chris loves to fish and has some great memories of fishing with his grandparents and his dad and until recently his fishing trips have been sporadic. We hope to start a habit--a good one. Chris hooked up with Kent at Bear Creek Anglers and he was a very patient and skilled … [Read more...]

Here Fishy Fishy Fishy!

Today is THE day.  I am going fly fishing for the very first time.  Chris is very excited.  I am less excited probably because I have memories of golf lessons with Bill Bopple (yep--that was really his name) and how those went.  You know it is not a good sign when the golf pro is still showing golf club holding on lesson three.....I may be a slow learner. These are pictures of where we are going to be fishing outside Decorah, … [Read more...]

Does Anyone Really Know What Time it Is??? It’s Friday in Chicago!

Last night Chris and I started the weekend early by going to a Chicago concert at the Surf Ballrooom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The Surf is a fabulous venue and I can only imagine how fabulous it would be to be performers playing there with all of the history that goes with it.  We have only been there once before for a BB King concert but it is an amazing place to go to a concert.  The venue is small ---the only seats are booths around the perimeter so the rest of the capacity crowd of 2100 is … [Read more...]

Library Love NCSU Style

On a recent trip to Raleigh, North Carolina to visit our youngest son we had the fun of going to go see the new Hunt Library at North Carolina State University--his alma mater.  It was beyond amazing. There's that word again!  It was fabulous!!!  It was stupendous!  It was incredible!  It was out of this world!  Okay--enough of the superlatives.    Aaron had made a donation which secured him a bench outside the library with his name on it.  Since there were no names on any of them … [Read more...]

Some People You Never Forget

I saw a quote today that resonated with me. Our culture has accepted two huge lies.  The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do.  Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate. ----Rick Warren----- I loved the above quote from Rick Warren and while I imagine it was spurred on because of the current "equality" campaigns I … [Read more...]
