Sometimes First Class Isn’t

My recent trip home from Texas was….how shall we say ….interesting.  You never know what you are going to encounter when you travel these days and this trip was the perfect example of how the unexpected is just that. Unexpected.  But it makes great content for a blog post so feel free to pour yourself a glass of iced tea (maybe even sweet tea to salute Texas) and settle in for a spell while I weave my yarn. The day started out early with Chris dropping me off at the Dallas Fort Worth airport. … [Read more...]

Traditions

Now that you have the song from Fiddler on the Roof going through your head I will give you a few moments to clear it out……..there….that ought to do it. Let me tell you what has me thinking of traditions today. Every year my family has a week that is designated as Lakeside week. Lakeside on Lake Erie is the home of the East (and West) Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. My family has a long history of being a part of the United Methodist Church because both my father and … [Read more...]

Signs on the Pavement of Things to Come

When I came home from Minneapolis on Wednesday I had to dodge orange cones or witches hats as they call them in Australia. The road that goes in front of our house was littered with them --carefully protecting the newly painted signs on the pavement that signaled to me that something big is going to be passing through Mason City in July. RAGBRAI is a big deal. When we first moved here I heard talk of RAGBRAI but had absolutely no idea what it was.  It is a non competitive bicycle race across … [Read more...]

The International Bank of Bob

You know it is a good day when I post about two of my favorite things.  Today I wanted to share a bit of Kiva love and if you know me you know that I love this organization.  This fabulous microfinancing site was founded in October 2005 by Matt Flannery and Jessica Jackley.  It has grown and surpassed their expectations, I am sure, and has many dedicated individuals who are on the board as well as others like Premal Shah (President of Kiva.org) who serve in various capacities. My … [Read more...]

Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II is on a quest.  To honor our veterans. This likable young man has a gift and a passion to honor every veteran who has served and who has made a difference.  He watched the movie "Saving Private Ryan" and was inspired to do something that would be a unique way of acknowledging their service. Cows and Seeds—They Go Together, Don’t They?

Chris and I recently took a quick trip through Decorah, Iowa which is one of our favorite spots in the state.  If you remember this was where I had my first trout fishing experience last year and we have been to the town several times and enjoyed all that it has to offer.  It is an amazing place and we enjoyed a lot of different things this time on our brief trip. We really wanted to go to the Seed Savers Exchange to see what it was all about as we had heard about it and thought it would be a … [Read more...]
