Don’t Be Too Late

A while back I read a book entitled "500 Things to Eat Before It's Too Late" by Jane and Michael Stern.  In it the authors detail a lot of great foods that need to be eaten in a lifetime.  I must admit that when it comes to food I am usually pretty adventurous.  I have eaten things that I never dreamed I would eat.  On a recent trip to see my mom I forced encouraged her to watch a couple of episodes of Bizarre Food America on the Travel Channel starring Andrew Zimmern and to say it was eye … [Read more...]

First Day Nerves

Remember that first day of school? Remember the first time you had to speak in front of the class? How about your first date? Or the first day on the very first job? Today I am feeling some of those butterfly in the stomach emotions. But not for me. Mr. Diamond starts a new job today.  After 5 months of being together almost every single day we are now geographically separated. He's in Texas. I'm in Iowa.  It's a good thing.  Work is a very good thing.  A new job is really a … [Read more...]

“Home” with Rachel Smith

I have had the extreme pleasure to meet a lot of great folks in the past year or so in Iowa.  It is funny that it has taken this long for me to find some really great people but what it all boils down to is social media and my blogger friend Sara from It's All in An Iowa Mom's Day and Travel with Sara.  Sara wanted to get people in our area talking and connecting through various social media platforms and she has now built her own business (Social Connections, LLC) around what she has learned. … [Read more...]

Signs on the Pavement of Things to Come

When I came home from Minneapolis on Wednesday I had to dodge orange cones or witches hats as they call them in Australia. The road that goes in front of our house was littered with them --carefully protecting the newly painted signs on the pavement that signaled to me that something big is going to be passing through Mason City in July. RAGBRAI is a big deal. When we first moved here I heard talk of RAGBRAI but had absolutely no idea what it was.  It is a non competitive bicycle race across … [Read more...]

Cows and Seeds—They Go Together, Don’t They?

Chris and I recently took a quick trip through Decorah, Iowa which is one of our favorite spots in the state.  If you remember this was where I had my first trout fishing experience last year and we have been to the town several times and enjoyed all that it has to offer.  It is an amazing place and we enjoyed a lot of different things this time on our brief trip. We really wanted to go to the Seed Savers Exchange to see what it was all about as we had heard about it and thought it would be a … [Read more...]

That’s A Lot of Bull……Head

Chris and I have a  bit of cabin fever.  Mother Nature dumped a bit more snow on us last week and I am trying to not complain but doggone it----I am tired of the fluffy white stuff.  Thank goodness it almost all melted off in 24 hours and we are supposed to experience a bit warmer temperatures this week.  Not a minute too soon. We had to get out of the house.  We didn't want to venture too far but wanted to go do something outside so we headed out after consulting Oddball Iowa--A Guide to … [Read more...]

My Mug O’ Comfort Arrived!!!

A few weeks ago I joined up with the ladies over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps to join in on their Mug O'Comfort Swap.  It was pretty simple---just agree to follow a few guidelines, make a couple of blog posts and send a basket of love to someone else.  Of course since it was a Mug O'Comfort swap one of the items had to be a mug and some fabulous things to put in the mug. I got matched up with the lovely and witty Jenni from Sincerely Jenni.   We both live in Iowa and have "met" virtually as she … [Read more...]
